1975 – Startup of bvba Denis-Plants
The story begins with the acquisition of the family business. We continue to build on the extensive experience of a company with a large selection of 15 species of greenhouse plants, such as Philodendron, Ficus, Aechmea, Marantha and others.
1980 – A switch to schefflera monoculture
Because monoculture allows for more efficient planning and steady production as well as a larger impact on the market, the company converts to the monoculture of Schefflera. This specialization continues to be part of Denis-Plants.
1984 – Construction of a new complex of greenhouses
In anticipation of further expansion and specialization in young plants, a new greenhouse complex is constructed. The latest techniques are incorporated: complete recirculation of water, all available energy saving modalities and optimal climate control.
1987 – In vitro technology
As of 1987, Denis-Plants starts making use of in-vitro technology and focuses increasingly on hardening. Spathiphyllum and Cordyline are prime products while the company becomes the market leader in the Calathea varieties. Innovation becomes the order of the day.
1990 – Export to Japan
Denis-Plants grows in prominence among the young plant businesses with world renown. International expansion into Japan is being explored.
1998 – Perennials
Denis-Plants widens its product line with the hardening of a large selection of perennials, including Geranium, Bergenia, Heuchera, Hosta and Helleborus.
2002 – First prize dutch ornamental growers
The company continues to invest in highly qualified people, new techniques and ecological cultivation techniques. Research into better quality and a broader spectrum of plants is rewarded with a prestigious “First Prize” in the Netherlands.
2011 – Belgian grower of the year
Rene Denis, CEO of Denis-Plants, receives the “Belgian Grower of the Year” award.
